- Surveillance biopsy will be requested at 1, 3, 5 and 10 years after liver transplantation.
- Labs:
Surveillance labs will include the basic coagulation profile (CBC, PT/INR, PTT) and can be performed locally. If labs results suggest rejection, liver biopsy is likely to be indicated and scheduled within one to two weeks. In these patients further coagulation tests are not usually needed. Blood screening/crossmatch can be done on the day of the procedure.
Additional blood tests may be requested while the patient is in IR for the biopsy. The tests may include donor-specific HLA antibodies (DSA), Pleximmune test, HLA typing and EBV Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
Obtaining blood samples should not add any significant time to the procedure and attempts to obtain these should not exceed 10 minutes. These tests collectively require ~ 10 mL of venous blood.
