2. Bite Blocks or Mouth Props
Mouth Props Bite Blocks, latex-free and fully autoclavable. Variety of sizes: IR (and the OR) carries 2 black bite blocks of 2 sizes: Large for adults and medium for children, can be made of black rubber or silicone.
Bite Blocks or Mouth Props are simple spacers designed to help position the mouth open, commonly used by dentists during dental procedures. But it can be also used to move the teeth away from the tongue.
The smaller side goes first between teeth with the flat surface placed against the cheek mucosa. You may put a thin silk tape or string though the hole and leave it outside the mouth taped to the cheek.
When the tongue enlarges following sclerotherapy, the patient’s teeth may worsen swelling by biting on the tongue from both upper and lower sides.
